June 20, 2026
New
- You can now suggest your own places: via "Suggest a place" you add a name, the location (right on the map) and a short description – after a quick review the place appears for everyone. Find your suggestions in your profile under "My places".
Improvements
- When you suggest a place you can now add a photo directly. If your photo carries location data we drop the map pin for you automatically – and if there's already a place right nearby, we suggest it so nothing gets added twice.
- Photo upload now tells you instantly whether a file works: iPhone photos (HEIC) are auto-converted to JPG, and unsupported files (e.g. RAW/CR2 or PDFs) get a clear hint right away instead of a failed upload.
- Photo gallery: smoother, animated browsing and swiping (with the mouse on desktop too) – and you can make a private photo public right from the photo via the lock icon.

New
- New privacy settings: your uploaded photos are now private by default – you decide if they go public. Location, public profile and visibility are now bundled under Settings → Privacy.
- You can now upload your own photos to places – right from the photo on each place (or drag & drop on desktop). They're briefly reviewed before going live. Manage them under "My photos".
- You can now narrow your search to a specific country – handy for finding places in just one country.
Improvements
- More comfort in the photo gallery: a newly uploaded photo appears instantly, you can delete your own photos right on the image, and on desktop you can browse by dragging with the mouse.
- Photo gallery refined: your own photo now shows first (otherwise the most recently uploaded one), and swiping moves cleanly one photo at a time – no more skipping.
- A place's photos now appear right in the large title image and you can browse through them – swipe or use the arrows, including your own uploads. Tap to view full size.
Important fixes
- Polish: the search page is neatly aligned again, and the number on the notification bell now clears as soon as you open it.

- A faster start: during setup you can now add your home city and places you've already visited. Then you go straight to rating – and those places show up first, so you start with spots you recognise.

New
- Your feed now refreshes itself: when fresh recommendations are ready, they animate in automatically and smoothly – no reload needed. While they load, a subtle “refreshing” hint shows at the bottom.
- Places by distance: sort the cities overview by proximity and filter your feed and recommendations to a radius (5–50 km). Just enable your location once.
- New in Settings → Data: you can now deactivate (pause) your account yourself — your profile is then hidden everywhere and reactivated by signing in again. Permanent deletion of all data now goes via email to us.
- You can now optionally share your location (during onboarding or in settings) — places near you then move up in search and recommendations. Revocable anytime.
- Your recommendation feed can now be filtered by interest and city — and you can hide individual recommendations that don't fit (they won't come back).
- You can now subscribe to the "What's new" section (RSS/JSON feed) and link directly to individual updates — via the link icon next to the date.

- Faster recommendations: the radius filter in your feed and profile now applies instantly, and switching pages shows a preview right away instead of briefly looking empty.
- Your recommendations feed now opens instantly – even right after you rate something, instead of briefly loading.

- The app now lets you know when there are new features: a subtle hint brings you straight here to what's new.
- Discover places by theme: common themes (e.g. architectural style, era, atmosphere) now have their own page listing all matching places. Tap a theme chip on a place page or browse the themes overview.
- You can now report places: is a location, name or detail wrong, or doesn't the place exist anymore? Tap "Report a problem" on the place page and let us know — we'll take a look.

- Sparse place pages now fill themselves in: open a place that still has little info and we fetch a description and a photo in the background — once something new is ready, a one-tap prompt lets you refresh.
- New profile menu: tapping your profile picture (top-left on mobile, top-right on desktop) now opens a sidebar with your level progress, quick profile access and navigation. And your travel-type text can now be expanded and collapsed.
- You can now sort a city's places: default, most popular, A–Z and nearest to the centre — and, once unlocked, by your personal top matches.
Improvements
- Jump to a page: on the cities overview and on individual city and country pages you can now pick the page you want directly — tap the dots between the page numbers instead of paging through one by one.
- Places no longer show a wrong/unrelated photo: when we lack a fitting own image, you now see a placeholder instead of a photo of a different place.
- On a city page you now land straight on the places from page 2 onward — the intro with city info and themes only shows on the first page.
- When you filter your recommendations, placeholder tiles now appear while the new places load — so you can see at a glance that something is happening.
- Filtering your place recommendations by city is now instant instead of a long wait — and you can see right away that it is loading.

- On city pages, the back button now returns you exactly to where you were.

- On your profile you can now filter place recommendations by country or city — just type to pick from any country or city. And "Which country next?" shows your top country matches.
- You're now notified when your travel type evolves — not just the first time.
- List detail pages now show a map of the places and a taste profile of the list.
- Search now understands 'term + city' — e.g. 'viewpoint in Leipzig' finds viewpoints in Leipzig.
- You can now add a place to a list directly from the place page.
Improvements
- Your country match is now identical on your profile and the countries overview — and reflects your taste more accurately.
- The travel recommendations (which city / country next) now show real top destinations instead of obscure tiny places — and a loading indicator appears at the top when you navigate, so you can see something is loading.
- Your profile page is cleaner and more compact — stats and top lists moved into your history, the taste compass now sits next to your travel type, and there's a new profile menu on mobile for settings and navigation.
- Your public profile now shows your current archetype (instead of an outdated one).
- You're now warned before leaving the page while a bookmark is still being saved.
- On a place page, “Similar places” and “Places nearby” now only show places that have a photo.

- New: TravelType can now be connected to AI assistants. If you like, you can hook up assistants like Claude or ChatGPT to TravelType and ask for places, cities and recommendations right in the chat.
- New: Open Data. The places gathered behind TravelType are now free to reuse — anyone may use them with attribution. What's available and how is laid out under "Open data".
- Discover cities by theme: every city page now has thematic entry points like "Romance", "Nightlife" or "Architecture" — each with a matching list of places and a map. Overview under "Discover".
- New: city comparison. Put two destinations side by side — places, themes and population compared. Overview under "Compare".
- New: a help section with frequently asked questions (FAQ) and step-by-step guides — e.g. create a profile, rate places, compare cities, discover by theme. Reachable from the footer.
Improvements
- The discover pages got a calmer, more spacious look — with a short description for every place, matching theme chips, more breathing room between sections and a map that highlights the right place when you hover its card. Places without a photo now show an elegant placeholder tile.
- If you're already signed in and open the login page, you now land straight on your profile.
- Discover is now a two-step, illustrated flow: cities with a photo first, then each city's themes as image tiles — one click takes you to the matching collection.
- For city comparison you now pick any two cities yourself — right on the compare page or via "compare with another city" on any city page.

- Notifications stay tidy: read ones disappear automatically after 24 hours, and the list keeps at most the newest 20.
- Many more places now appear in your personalized suggestions — lots of sights that never showed up before are now matched to your taste.
- Fewer irrelevant places while discovering — supermarkets, gas stations, retail chains and the many pavement memorial plaques no longer show up in suggestions.
