Iquique

About Iquique

Iquique is a Pacific port city in northern Chile, situated at the edge of the Atacama Desert, with a population of around 188,000. It played a significant role in the saltpetre trade during the 19th century and retains a notable historical character. Points of interest include Cerro Covadonga, Cerro Anzuelo offering views across the city, the maritime memorial Boya hundimiento Esmeralda, the Marinero Desconocido monument, and the coastal lookout Punta Rabo de Ballena.
