About Barbados

Barbados is an island nation in the eastern Caribbean, situated roughly 430 kilometres north of Trinidad. One of the world's most densely populated countries, it covers around 430 square kilometres. The capital, Bridgetown, serves as the economic and cultural hub of the island. Barbados gained independence in 1966 and remains a member of the Commonwealth. The island's eastern coast faces the open Atlantic with stronger surf, while the western coast borders the calmer Caribbean Sea. Sugar cane cultivation shaped the country's history and landscape for centuries.
