Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in West Africa, bordered by Mali, Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Ivory Coast. Its capital is Ouagadougou. The terrain consists largely of savannah and Sahel, with a semi-arid climate across much of the country. The population numbers around 20 million, making it one of the more populous nations in the region. French is the official language alongside numerous indigenous tongues. The country is known for its rich cultural traditions and hosts FESPACO, the pan-African film and television festival held biennially in Ouagadougou.
