About Saint Barthélemy
Saint Barthélemy is a French overseas collectivity situated in the Caribbean's Leeward Islands, northwest of Guadeloupe. The island covers roughly 25 square kilometres and is home to around 10,000 residents. Its capital, Gustavia, sits around a natural harbour. Between 1784 and 1878 the island was under Swedish rule, a legacy still reflected in place names and local symbols. The terrain is hilly with a coastline of white-sand beaches, and the climate is tropical with relatively low annual rainfall.
