About Belarus

Belarus is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, bordering Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. The landscape is characterised by extensive forests, wetlands, and the Pripyat Marshes, one of the largest wetland areas in Europe. The capital Minsk was largely rebuilt after World War II and features prominent Soviet-era architecture. Belarus has a population of around nine million and has been an independent state since 1991. The Białowieża Forest, a cross-border UNESCO World Natural Heritage site shared with Poland, is one of the country's most notable natural landmarks.
