About Gabon
Gabon sits on the Atlantic coast of Central Africa, bordered by Cameroon, the Republic of the Congo, and Equatorial Guinea. Around 85 percent of its territory is covered by tropical rainforest, making it one of the most forested countries in the world. Its national parks, including Lopé and Ivindo, protect remarkable biodiversity, including forest elephants and western lowland gorillas. The capital, Libreville, lies at the mouth of the Gabon Estuary. Petroleum, discovered in the 1970s, remains the cornerstone of the national economy.
