About French Guiana
French Guiana is an overseas department of France situated on the northeastern coast of South America, bordered by Suriname to the west and Brazil to the south and east. Its capital is Cayenne, on the Atlantic coast. Around 90 percent of the territory is covered by tropical rainforest, much of it protected. The region is widely known for the Guiana Space Centre near Kourou, from which the European Space Agency conducts rocket launches. As an integral part of France, French Guiana is a full member of the European Union and uses the euro.
