Ghana lies on the west coast of Africa, bordered by Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Togo. In 1957 it became the first sub-Saharan country to gain independence from a colonial power. The capital, Accra, serves as the political and economic hub. Ghana ranks among the world's leading cocoa producers and holds significant gold reserves. Its population comprises numerous ethnic groups, with the Akan being the largest. Historic coastal forts, national parks, and Atlantic beaches offer a range of experiences, making it a varied destination for travellers across the region.
