About Madagascar
Madagascar is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, situated roughly 400 kilometres off the eastern coast of Africa. At around 587,000 square kilometres, it is the world's fourth-largest island. Its long geographic isolation has produced a remarkable degree of biodiversity: the vast majority of its wildlife, including the iconic lemurs, is found nowhere else on Earth. The country encompasses tropical rainforests, central highland plateaus, arid spiny forests in the south, and extensive stretches of coastline along both its eastern and western shores.
