About Marshall Islands
The Marshall Islands is an island nation in the central Pacific Ocean, comprising 29 atolls and five individual islands with roughly 1,200 islets in total. The capital, Majuro, serves as the political and economic hub of the country. Lying barely above sea level, the islands are considered highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change and rising seas. The country has a layered colonial history under German, Japanese, and American administration and has been a sovereign state in free association with the United States since 1986.
