About Martinique
Martinique is a French overseas region and department situated in the Caribbean's Lesser Antilles, lying between Dominica to the north and St. Lucia to the south. The island covers roughly 1,128 square kilometres and is home to around 350,000 people. Its capital, Fort-de-France, serves as the economic and cultural hub. As part of the European Union, Martinique uses the euro. The island's interior is dominated by Mont Pelée, a volcano whose catastrophic 1902 eruption destroyed the then-thriving city of Saint-Pierre.
