About Niger
Niger is a landlocked country in West Africa and one of the largest on the continent by area. The Sahara desert and the Sahel zone dominate much of its terrain, with the more fertile south hosting the majority of the population. The capital, Niamey, sits in the southwest along the Niger River. The country holds significant uranium reserves. Niger is home to diverse ethnic groups, including the Hausa, Zarma, and Tuareg peoples, and is considered one of the least developed countries in the world by standard measures.
