About Nicaragua
Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America by area, bordered by Honduras to the north and Costa Rica to the south. Its capital, Managua, sits on the shores of Lake Managua. The country features a landscape of active volcanoes, tropical rainforests, and two coastlines — along the Pacific in the west and the Caribbean in the east. Lake Nicaragua in the south is the largest freshwater lake in Central America. Colonial cities such as Granada and León are among the oldest European-founded settlements on the American continent.
