About Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia occupies the greater part of the Arabian Peninsula and holds two of Islam's holiest cities: Mecca and Medina, which draw millions of pilgrims each year. The kingdom's economy is anchored by some of the world's largest petroleum reserves. Vast desert landscapes, including the Rub' al Khali — one of the largest continuous sand deserts on Earth — define much of the interior. The capital, Riyadh, serves as the political and commercial center, while the ancient Nabataean site of Hegra stands as the country's first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
