Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe that emerged in 1993 following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia. It shares borders with Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, and Hungary. The Carpathian Mountains cover much of its terrain, offering hiking, skiing, and nature experiences. The capital, Bratislava, sits on the Danube and features a historic old town and a prominent hilltop castle.
