Suriname is a small country on the northern coast of South America, bordered by Guyana, French Guiana, and Brazil. One of the least densely populated nations in the world, it is largely covered by tropical rainforest. The capital, Paramaribo, sits at the mouth of the Suriname River and features a historic inner city recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The population is notably diverse, reflecting indigenous, Creole, Indo-Surinamese, and Javanese heritages. Dutch is the official language.
