About South Sudan

South Sudan became the world's youngest internationally recognised state in 2011, following decades of civil conflict and a referendum on independence from Sudan. This landlocked East African country borders six nations and is traversed by the White Nile. It is home to the Sudd, one of the largest inland wetlands on Earth, and supports substantial wildlife populations. The country comprises numerous ethnic groups and a largely rural population. Ongoing political instability and humanitarian challenges remain significant factors; travellers should consult current safety advisories before planning any visit.
