About Timor-Leste

Timor-Leste, also known as East Timor, occupies the eastern portion of Timor island in Southeast Asia and is one of the world's youngest nations, having gained internationally recognised independence in 2002. In addition to its mainland territory, the country includes the Oecusse enclave on the island's north-west coast and the smaller islands of Atauro and Jaco. Tetum and Portuguese serve as official languages. The capital, Dili, sits on the northern coast. The country is characterised by mountainous interior landscapes, coastal marine biodiversity, and a layered colonial and post-colonial history.
