About Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordering Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to the north, Afghanistan and Iran to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west. Much of its territory is covered by the Karakum Desert, making it one of the driest countries on earth. The capital is Ashgabat. The country holds substantial natural gas and oil reserves. The population is predominantly Turkmen and Muslim. Visitors generally require a visa and encounter a country with tightly controlled infrastructure and limited tourist facilities.
