About Yemen
Yemen occupies the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering Saudi Arabia and Oman, with coastlines on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The country has a recorded history stretching back millennia, once home to ancient South Arabian civilisations. Its capital, Sanaa, is considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Yemen is also known for the island of Socotra, noted for its distinctive endemic plant life. Since 2015, an ongoing armed conflict has made travel to Yemen effectively impossible for most visitors.
