About Mayotte
Mayotte is a French overseas department situated in the Indian Ocean, between the eastern coast of Africa and the northern tip of Madagascar, within the Comoro archipelago. It consists of two main islands, Grande-Terre and Petite-Terre, alongside several smaller islets. The population is predominantly Muslim and culturally linked to the Comoros. The territory is known for one of the world's largest lagoons, enclosed by an extensive coral reef. Since 2011 it has held full departmental status within France, with the euro as its currency.
