El-Lahun

Al-Lahun is a small village at the eastern entrance to the Fayyum basin, roughly 100 kilometres southwest of Cairo. In archaeological literature the site is best known for the pyramid of Senusret II, a Middle Kingdom structure dating to around 1880 BCE, and the adjacent workers' settlement of Kahun — one of the best-preserved planned towns from ancient Egypt. For visitors today, al-Lahun serves mainly as a gateway into the wider Fayyum region.
