Alberto Korda (Fotógrafo)

A monument in Havana dedicated to Cuban photographer Alberto Korda (1928–2001), born Alberto Díaz Gutiérrez. Korda achieved global fame through his 1960 portrait of Ernesto 'Che' Guevara — 'Guerrillero Heroico' — which became one of the most reproduced images of the 20th century, appearing on everything from student protest posters to commercial merchandise in a way Korda himself largely rejected. As Fidel Castro's personal photographer in the early revolutionary years, his lens defined much of the visual iconography of the Cuban Revolution. Little documentation exists on the monument's physical form, but it marks a culturally charged site for those interested in Cuban photographic history and revolutionary-era image politics.
