Omdurman Bridge

The Old Omdurman Bridge is a steel-truss road bridge completed in 1926 and the oldest river crossing in greater Khartoum. It spans the White Nile between the Sudanese capital Khartoum and the historic city of Omdurman, a connection that carried immense strategic importance during the British colonial period when it served as the sole fixed crossing in the region. Its riveted steel lattice-work is characteristic of early British colonial engineering projects across East Africa. Though newer bridges have long since relieved its traffic load, the structure remains a tangible remnant of early 20th-century infrastructure and offers open views across the Nile to both city banks.
