Ayutuxtepeque

Ayutuxtepeque is an independent municipio within the Departamento San Salvador, functionally absorbed into the greater San Salvador metropolitan area. Founded in 1824 following Central American independence, it covers roughly 8.5 km² and recorded approximately 35,000 inhabitants in the 2007 census. As an administrative unit it retains its own municipal government, though in daily life it blends seamlessly into the dense urban fabric of the capital region.
