Bastille

Also known as: Bastille Saint-Antoine

On 14 July 1789 Parisian citizens stormed this fortress and sparked the French Revolution — the date is now France's national holiday. The Bastille itself no longer exists: it was demolished after the storming. A few stone remnants underground are all that remain of the once-feared royal prison.
