The British Cemetery in Kabul's Shāre Naw district is the only Christian burial ground in Afghanistan, maintained to this day by the British Embassy. Its graves span British soldiers and civilians who died during the Anglo-Afghan Wars of the 19th century through to more recent decades, making it a rare and quietly striking archive of colonial and military history in Central Asia. Set against the backdrop of an overwhelmingly Muslim city, the cemetery's existence is an anomaly that reflects centuries of turbulent foreign involvement in Afghanistan — and its continued upkeep speaks to an unbroken diplomatic commitment to remembrance.
