Magnificent Renaissance funerary chapel of condottiere Colleoni in Bergamo's old town

The Cappella Colleoni in Bergamo's old town is one of the most magnificent funerary chapels of the Italian Renaissance. Commissioned in 1471 by mercenary leader Bartolomeo Colleoni and dedicated to St. John the Baptist, its facade displays an intricate 15th-century marble mosaic. Inside lie Colleoni himself and his daughter Medea, who died young — making this a pinnacle of Lombard sculptural art and an Italian national monument.
