Emmauskapelle Rieste

The Emmauskapelle in Rieste is a small evangelical-Lutheran cemetery chapel built between 1912 and early 1913 in the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) style. Its name derives from the Emmaus window, a stained-glass panel depicting the moment two disciples share a meal with the risen Jesus at Emmaus — an unusually narrative choice for a rural cemetery chapel. The building is currently used by the Christuskirchen-Gemeinde Hesepe-Sögeln-Rieste, a congregation in the Kirchenkreis Bramsche. Among the sparse Jugendstil architecture of the Osnabrück countryside, the chapel stands out as a quietly crafted example of the ornamental style applied to a modest community function.
