Berlin-Charlottenburg station is a mainline and S-Bahn stop on the elevated Stadtbahn, opened in 1882 and listed as a protected architectural monument. Historically significant as the junction where the Wetzlar Railway branches off from the city rail line, a role it has held since the Wilhelmine era. Today it serves regional and long-distance trains as well as multiple S-Bahn lines, functioning as a western inner-city interchange. Traces of the original Gründerzeit station structure are still visible despite later renovations.
