Blasewitz is a late-19th-century villa suburb in eastern Dresden, incorporated into the city in 1921. It developed as a prosperous retreat for Dresden's imperial-era bourgeoisie, and its streets are lined with stately Historismus villas and generous private gardens — one of Saxony's best-preserved examples of patrician suburban planning. The neighbourhood's defining landmark is the adjacent Loschwitzer Brücke, affectionately known as the Blaues Wunder (Blue Wonder), a suspension bridge from 1893 that connects Blasewitz to Loschwitz on the far bank of the Elbe. The riverside promenade offers open views across the river valley, and a ferry crossing still operates near the bridgehead.
