About Žatec

Žatec is a city in the Ústí nad Labem Region of northwest Bohemia, Czech Republic, with a population of around 19,000. Set in the fertile Eger lowlands, it is internationally recognised for the cultivation of Saaz hops, one of the most prized hop varieties in brewing history. The historic town centre contains several notable landmarks, including the churches of sv. Šimon a Juda and sv. Barbora, and the Divadlo theatre. Surrounding villages such as Tvršice, Žabokliky, and Svatá Anna form part of the wider municipality. The medieval humanist Jan ze Žatce, known as Johannes von Saaz, is closely linked to the city's cultural heritage.
