Condé-sur-l'Escaut is a French town in the Nord département, situated close to the Belgian border where the Escaut (Scheldt) river flows through the landscape. With a population of around 9,000, it forms part of the former coal-mining region, as evidenced by the Terril la Grange Est colliery spoil heap and the mining shafts Puits Saint-Jean and Puits Bonne Part Extraction. Remnants of historic fortifications, including the Redoute du Jard and the Bastion de la Voute, reflect its past as a defended border town. The Noor Mosque and the Corps de garde are further points of interest.
