About Edam

Edam is a small city in the Dutch province of Noord-Holland, roughly 20 kilometres north-east of Amsterdam. It is internationally known for the round, wax-coated cheese that bears its name and has been traded here since the Middle Ages. The compact historic centre is laced with canals and lined with well-preserved merchant houses. Notable local landmarks include the Hervormde Kerk and the H. Nicolaaskerk, as well as the distinctive drawbridges Baanbrug and Drilbrug. With a population of around 19,000, Edam makes a relaxed destination for a day trip or a quiet short stay.
