Cathédrale du Christ-Roi
Gitega
Gitega is Burundi's second-largest city and has served as the country's official capital since 2019. Home to around 135,000 people, it sits in the central highlands, roughly at the geographic heart of the country. The city has a notable religious and cultural presence, reflected in landmarks such as the Cathédrale du Christ-Roi, Paroisse Saint Sacrément de Rukundo, and the Cultural Centre Gitega. The busy Marché de Ntita is a hub of everyday commerce, and the city offers a more intimate look at Burundian urban life than the larger former capital, Bujumbura.
