About Burundi
Burundi is a landlocked country in East Africa, bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Much of the densely populated country sits on a high plateau, and it is among the smallest and least wealthy nations on the continent. The western border follows the shore of Lake Tanganyika. Gitega serves as the official capital, while Bujumbura remains the main commercial and port city. The population is composed primarily of Hutu and Tutsi communities.
