Pattaya sits on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Thailand in Chon Buri Province, roughly 150 kilometres south-east of Bangkok. Home to around 119,000 residents, it is one of Southeast Asia's most visited coastal cities. Visitors can explore the bustling Sopon Market and a daily fresh market, or find quieter stretches at Laem Thong Beach, Kruat Beach, and the coastal area of Laem Sang Wan. The Big Buddha and the Guanyin Temple are prominent religious landmarks, while the Major Cineplex reflects the city's well-developed urban amenities.
