Raton

About Raton

Raton sits in northeastern New Mexico close to the Colorado state line, at roughly 1,900 metres elevation near the foot of Raton Pass. Home to around 6,000 residents, it serves as a quiet base for exploring the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo range. Distinctive landforms such as Horse Shoe Mesa and Nipple Peak define the surrounding terrain. La Mesa Park and Optimist Park South offer open-air recreation within the city. Its position near the New Mexico/Colorado state line makes Raton a convenient stop for travellers moving between the two states.
