Sanmenxia

About Sanmenxia

Sanmenxia sits in the western part of Henan Province, where the Yellow River forms natural borders with Shaanxi and Shanxi. The city of roughly two million inhabitants took its modern shape following the construction of the Sanmenxia Dam in the late 1950s. Points of interest in the area include the historical and cultural zone 函谷关历史文化旅游区, the Neolithic archaeological site of Miaodigou, and destinations such as Guanyintang, Jiaokou, and Zhangjiawan. The region is also recognised as a wintering habitat for migratory cranes along the Yellow River.
