Tarata is a small town of around 3,300 inhabitants in Bolivia's Departamento Cochabamba, set in a valley of the central Andean region. Its town centre features the Iglesia San José de Tarata and the Iglesia de San Pedro, alongside a monument to independence figure Esteban Arze.
