Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, located in Hunedoara County, Romania, was the capital of the Roman province of Dacia, founded by Emperor Trajan in the early second century. Today it is a small village, but its grounds preserve one of the country's most significant archaeological sites. Visitors can explore remains including the Templul mare, the Schola gladiatorum, and the Sediul procuratorului financiar. The surrounding area offers natural attractions as well, among them the Cerna Straits Nature Reserve and the enigmatic mountain lake known as Tăul fără fund.
