About Chile
Chile stretches as a narrow strip along the western coast of South America for more than 4,000 kilometres, from the arid Atacama in the north to the windswept Strait of Magellan in the south. It borders Argentina and Bolivia to the east and faces the Pacific Ocean to the west. The capital, Santiago, serves as the country's political and economic hub. With a population of around 19 million, Chile encompasses an extraordinary range of landscapes — desert, lake districts, Patagonian steppe and sub-Antarctic territory — within a single, elongated country.
