About Iraq

Iraq occupies a central position in the Middle East, sharing borders with Iran, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Much of its territory corresponds to ancient Mesopotamia, the region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers where some of the world's earliest civilisations developed. Baghdad is the capital and by far the largest city. The country holds substantial oil reserves and is gradually rebuilding its infrastructure and tourism sector after decades of conflict. The climate is predominantly semi-arid to arid.
