About Latvia
Latvia is a small country in northeastern Europe, bordering the Baltic Sea between Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, and Belarus. Its capital, Riga, is the country's cultural and economic hub, known for its medieval old town and one of Europe's largest collections of Art Nouveau architecture. The landscape is defined by extensive forests, wetlands, and a flat coastline with long sandy beaches. Latvia joined the European Union and NATO in 2004 and adopted the euro in 2014, making it one of the three Baltic states that regained independence in 1991.
