About Peru
Peru is a country on the western coast of South America, bordering the Pacific Ocean and six neighboring nations. Its territory spans three distinct natural zones: a coastal desert, the Andean highlands with peaks exceeding 6,000 metres, and the Amazon basin. Lima serves as the capital and largest city. The country is home to major archaeological sites of the Inca civilisation, including Machu Picchu near Cusco, as well as remains of earlier cultures. Peru has a population of around 33 million; Spanish is the official language alongside recognised indigenous languages such as Quechua and Aymara.
