About Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and hundreds of smaller islands in the southwestern Pacific. It is one of the most linguistically diverse countries on Earth, with over 800 spoken languages. The landscape ranges from dense tropical rainforests and highland valleys to coral reefs along the coast. The capital, Port Moresby, sits on the southern coast. Independent since 1975 and a member of the Commonwealth, the country appeals primarily to travellers interested in nature, wildlife, and cultural diversity.
