About Slovenia

Slovenia is a small country in Central Europe, bordering Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. Within its roughly 20,000 square kilometres it encompasses Alpine peaks, dense forests, a short Adriatic coastline, and the limestone karst landscape that gave the geological term its name. The capital, Ljubljana, sits at the country's heart. Slovenia declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and joined the European Union in 2004. Its best-known natural landmarks include Triglav, the country's highest mountain, Lake Bled, and the Postojna Cave system — making it a rewarding destination for outdoor and cultural travellers alike.
