Uruguay is a small country in southeastern South America, bordered by Brazil to the north and Argentina to the west. With around 3.5 million inhabitants, it is one of the least populous nations on the continent, yet ranks among its most stable and prosperous. The capital, Montevideo, sits on the northern shore of the Río de la Plata estuary. The interior is characterised by gently rolling hills and vast pastoral grasslands, while the Atlantic coastline, including the well-known resort town of Punta del Este, draws visitors with its long sandy beaches.
