2010. október 4.-i vörösiszap katasztrófa, gátszakadás

This memorial marks the site of the catastrophic dam breach on 4 October 2010 near Kolontár in western Hungary, when a containment reservoir at the MAL aluminium plant failed. Approximately one million cubic metres of toxic red bauxite sludge — a byproduct of alumina refining — inundated three villages within hours, killing ten people and injuring 150 more across a 40-square-kilometre zone. The disaster became one of the worst industrial environmental accidents in European history. Legal proceedings against MAL AG executives dragged on for years, and the affected land required extensive remediation efforts. The site today functions as a quiet place of remembrance for the victims and a marker of the limits of industrial oversight.
